Idaho Falls City Council needs input on anti-discrimination ordinance

Idaho Falls city leaders say they need more input on a potential anti-discrimination ordinance.

At a city council work session today, council members decided to take an approach where a public panel will discuss the pros and cons of the possible ordinance in a meeting open to the public.

Afterward, the city council will hold an open session to draft an ordinance with the city attorney based on the panel’s discussion.

“The ordinance would not be pass on one reading. It would be passed on three readings which gives visibility, ongoing discussions,” said Council member Tom Hally.

The city council expects to set a date for the public panel in the next two weeks. Their goal is to have an ordinance completed sometime in June.
