Wednesday’s Child: Sarah

Every child deserves a family of their own, even if they’re an older teenager.

As an animal lover, 16 year old Sarah was in heaven at the zoo in Idaho Falls. Zoo director, Beth Rich, and staff gave her a personal tour.

“I love animals,” Sarah said. “Being with animals is one of my favorite things to do.”

The sloth bears were a big hit with Sarah. During our time at the zoo, I got to know Sarah.

“I’m usually a pretty outgoing type of person – willing to talk about anything,” Sarah said. “I’ve had a lot of troubles in life, but I’ve learned to overcome them and still have a good perspective on life.”

I was impressed with all the questions Sarah had for the zoo staff. She seemed eager to learn.

“I love to learn,” Sarah said. “I’m not one of those kids that goes to school just because I have to. I really enjoy a challenge and being able to focus on school and I enjoy debate a lot.”

Sarah has big plans for her future. She wants to become a psychologist.

“I’ve always been interested in the way the mind works and lately I’ve been interested in trying to help people with the way their mind works,” Sarah said.

I asked Sarah to not be modest and tell me her good qualities that would make her an asset to a family.

“I’m just really fun and I’m not afraid to have fun,” Sarah said. “And I also know the reasons for a family is the love, and the care and the compassion and those are all things that I hold naturally.”

At 16 years old Sarah realizes she only has a couple years to live full time with a family, but she wants that experience and she wants a family and place to come home to for the holidays even after she’s an adult.

“It would mean the world to me to be able to come home and say, I’m home and people would greet me at the door with a hug -that would be special,” Sarah said.
