Road construction on Rexburg’s main drag

Rexburg’s main roads are getting a facelift, the Idaho Transportation Department said.

Crews are replacing broken pavement on State Highway 33, which includes Main Street and Second East, starting Monday. The construction zone is from the U.S. Highway 20 exit to the Madison County Courthouse on Main Street, and on Second East from the intersection with Main Street to Walmart.

Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Crews will not work the Monday through Friday of Memorial Day week (May 27), but will return June 3.

During construction, the highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should expect delays, merging traffic, uneven surfaces and construction equipment in the work zone.

Commercial transporters hauling loads wider than 12 feet need to contact Maintenance Operations Manager Ken Hahn, at(208) 745-5640, or Staff Engineer Tracy Bono, at(208) 745-5619, 24 hours in advance for special authorization to travel through the construction zone, ITD said.

The work should be completed in mid-June.

Rexburg drivers are already experiencing a construction season that is in full swing, as U.S. 20 between Rexburg and Thornton is getting resurfaced, and the road is also reduced to one lane in each direction. That project is also scheduled to be completed next month.
