Classes available to help older adults prevent falls

Just in time for the fall season, Idaho is among 47 states bringing awareness to the risk of falls among older adults.

According to the Eastern Idaho Public Health District, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for those over 65 years old.

Older adults need to make sure their own homes are safe, including being aware of where cords and furniture may be tripping hazards.

The health district offers “Fit and and Fall Proof” classes for older adults to improve physical activity. They are taught by Brigham Young University-Idaho students doing internships. Classes can also be a good time for social interaction.
