Pocatello Women’s Cycling donates $11,000

Cancer is never an easy thing to deal with, especially when the unexpected diagnosis brings on unexpected costs.

But a donation to Portneuf Medical Center’s Cancer Center is going to help patients in need of help – not with their medical bills, but with the bills they already have.

There is a specific fund for those patients who need help covering those costs called the Cancer Patient Assistance Fund.

“There are so many additional costs to cancer,” said Robb Dye, clinical social worker at the Cancer Center. “It can be hard to pay for gasoline, food, rent or mortgage, power bills or basic utilities, so that’s what we use that money for.”

Pocatello Women’s Cycling presented the Cancer Center with a check today for $11,000, just a portion of money raised from the Second Annual women’s-only Spinderella Ride.

“Every year we come up with a new idea and the goal is to donate the money locally in Southeast Idaho,” said Keiko Dye, a committee member for the ride. “It’s really nice to know how neat this is to help people out.”

The Spinderella Ride only started two years ago, but the first year they had more than 300 people. This year the number of participants was more than 700, and they’re expecting even more next year.
