Schools nominated by State Department of Education

This week two Eastern Idaho schools are being nationally recognized.

United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced Gate City Elementary School in Pocatello and Sugar Salem High School in Sugar City are the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools in Idaho.

The award is based on overall academic excellence or improving students’ academic achievements.

The national award goes to 236 public and 50 private elementary, middle and high schools from around the country.

Both schools will be honored during a ceremony slated for Nov. 18 – 19 in Washington, D.C.
