Local Youth Recognized for Service

Eighteen outstanding young people from Bonneville county were honored Thursday night.

The Extra Mile Youth Awards are put on each year by the Bonneville Youth Development Council. Members of the community nominate students they have observed going the extra mile in serving others.

From volunteering at the hospital or zoo, to organizing food drives, to helping the teacher in class, there were plenty of inspiring stories.

The students feel good about serving.

“It feels good,” said Nick Chaffin. “It is community service. Give back to your community. It’s a great feeling to help out people.”

It feels real good just to know that you help other people and you made them happy, that you can do that for them, Ashlyn Allen said. “

This was the 12th annual awards ceremony.
