Home energy assistance still available for low income individuals

The Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership is still helping low income people with energy bills.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps eligible people pay for one energy bill per year. The program is usually available from Nov. 1 through March 31; however, due to a drained benefit pool the past two years, it ended in February.

Russel Spain, the executive eirector at EICAP, said he wants eligible people to know help is still available.

“I think there’s some that just made the assumption that last year it ended in February, so this year it ended in February, as well,” said Spain. “We’ve really dropped off for a number of reasons – one, I think February syndrome hit, and the other, the sun came out.”

Those interested in the program can make an appointment with the Energy Assistance staff at 522-5391.
