Humane Society sees animals dumped on doorstep Wednesday

The Bannock Humane Society was already planning on being presented with a check from Lithia Honda of Pocatello. However, they weren’t expecting to have a prime example of how that donation will help after three cats were abandoned on their doorstep Wednesday.

The Humane Society said the three female cats have been de-clawed, seem well-taken care of and likely have been spayed, but they will still get them a checkup and test for feline leukemia before they will be ready for adoption.

Humane Society president Maggie Taylor was very displeased when she heard a volunteer found the cats left on the doorstep of the Humane Society building Wednesday afternoon.

“We’re not at this building all the time,” Taylor said. “They can’t just drop them off. Give us a call or take them to the Pocatello Animal Shelter. It’s better than just letting them go wild or having them picked up by a coyote, eagle or a hawk.”

Taylor also said it’s getting closer to puppy and kitten season, so be aware of your options if your animals do have litters of babies.

LIthia Honda general manager Casey Gummersall said he couldn’t believe the cats were just left behind, but said it made him feel the Humane Society is a worthwhile cause.

Gummersall said the Honda dealership donated $50 to the Humane Society for every new Honda sold. They donated a check for $800 to the Humane Society. He plans to have another fundraiser.

“June or July, for every new Honda sold, we’ll donate another 50 bucks per car,” Gummersall said, “and we’ll bring another big check down to the Humane Society.”
