Jocelyn Jackson Honored With Award

Academics may be a major focus of high school, but having fun can also be part of the experience.

At least that’s what United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award winner, Jocelyn Jackson thinks. The Snake River High School student has a supporting role the school’s production of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

“It has been super fun,” Jocelyn said. “The cast is super close together and it’s just a fun play as it is — there’s lots of dancing and singing — it’s really fun.”

Jocelyn has appeared in five school and community plays. She’s also the President of Chambers Choir, as well as president of FCCLA – Family Career and Community Leaders of America. She’s already a certified nursing assistant and has her future planned out.

“I hope to go to college and get a degree in special education and hopefully sign language and hopefully help the special needs kids,” Jocelyn said.

In her distinguished student nomination letter, play director, Jana McBride, wrote that Jocelyn goes beyond expectations, staying to clean up after rehearsals and helping with props. She goes on to say that Jocelyn is kind to everyone and makes the play more fun, just because she is there. Jocelyn says students should enjoy their high school experience.

“Don’t be afraid to have fun,” Jocely said. “Take every opportunity that you have to enjoy it with your friends. It is so worth it. Pick great friends. Don’t be afraid to be a little bit dorky because it’s worth it in the end. You will not look back and be disappointed. It’s worth it every step of the way.”
