Escaped cow shot after leading police on chase

A cow was shot and killed after leading police on a chase through northern Pocatello Friday afternoon.

Around 12:40 p.m., police got a call about a “very agitated heifer” that had escaped from a local meat-processing plant.

Police and animal services chased the 1,000-pound cow up Hawthorne Road, down Quinn and through OK Ward Park.

They say the cow posed a threat to public safety.

Mary Remer with Pocatello Animal Services said police cornered the cow several times and fired shots, but that it kept getting away.

The cow was eventually killed in a nearby subdivision.

Police said no one was hurt and the cow didn’t damage any private property, but Remer told Local News 8 the cow did manage to ram one of the animal control vehicles.
