Warm weather isn’t affecting enthuasim for winter sports

Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures, business is booming at Idaho Mountain Trading.

The store has seen an increase in sales lately.

Sales manager Cindy Croft Napier said numbers are up by almost 20 percent.

“Even though the weather is unseasonably warm it doesn’t seem to be affecting the excitement for getting up on the mountain and enjoying the snow,” said Napier.

That interest is not just from veteran winter sports fanatics; some of those interested are just dipping into the hobby.

“The little boys and girls are just really excited about going for the first time. We’re seeing a lot of new interest in snowboarding and skiing as well,” said Napier.

While most are enjoying this short sleeve weather, it’s not stopping folks from preparing for Old Man Winter.

“Then people are really excited about getting a new jacket this year too. Jackets have been really popular,” said Napier.

She said ski jackets are a big seller but even more so are the newer lightweight down jackets.

Avid skier Brad Young said warmer temperatures mean clearer mountain roads

As for the weather, it won’t be keeping him from hitting the slopes

“I think just like anything. Things come and go in cycles and I think we’re just in a cycle so we just gotta weather the storm,” said Young.

As of Friday Jackson and Grand Targhee ski resorts have seen a total snowfall of over 100 inches.

That’s not the case for all resorts Kelly Canyon hasn’t opened up yet due to the small amount of snow fall.
