Reward offered to help solve 2009 Pocatello murder
Pocatello police are offering a reward for information that might help solve a six-year-old murder case.
Eugene Lorene Red Elk was found with severe head and chest trauma on the night of June 14, 2009, in the Duffy’s Tavern parking lot at 1304 N. Main. Three days later, family decided to remove him from life support and he passed away.
Lt. Ian Nelson said there is no new information in the case, which is why the department is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
“We have an obligation, not only to the family of victims but to the victims to continue to try and resolve what happened to them and who’s responsible,” Nelson said.
The money will come from a fund set up specifically for circumstances like this. Nelson said this case is considered a cold case, meaning there have been no new leads for at least two years. However, he said that doesn’t mean the case isn’t still being worked on, as shown by the offer of a reward.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Division of the Pocatello Police Department at (208) 234-6121. People may also contact Capt. Terry Felsman at tfelsman@pocatello.us or Detective Wil Brown at wbrown@pocatello.us.
“If anybody has information regarding this, please help us out,” Nelson said. “We want to get this resolved. We really want to be able to give some closure to friends and family.”
Police say all contact will be kept strictly confidential.
