Marshall Public Library adds more computers for homework help

Kids in Pocatello have more help to get their homework assignments done.

Marshall Public Library added two new computers, giving them four that are homework only.

The computers have basic school-related programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Each computer also has internet access.

The homework computers are set aside for students 17 and under.

Each person can reserve a computer for up to two hours.

Kath Ann Hendricks, a librarian, said this helps kids who can’t afford a computer or internet at home. It also provides a solution to a number of other problems kids may have with completing their homework.

“Your internet goes down, or your printer’s not working, or there’s about three of you that need to use the computer,” said Hendricks. “Or, maybe you’re driving around town with your mom and she’s dropping off one child to dance and another to football and you remember you’ve got a paper that you’ve got to finish. Why not finish it here?”

Hendricks said they also make sure that kids who come to the library to work on homework are able to get it done.

“We’ve stationed these computers near a help desk so staff will be easily accessible to answer any questions, and it’s in a quiet spot where they can focus on their studies,” said Hendricks.

Each child also gets ten free prints for their homework assignments.
