Idaho Falls Fire Department responds to straw stack fire

The Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to a straw stack fire at 113th South 15th East at 1:44 a.m. on March 3, 2016.

Engine 4 arrived and found a fully engulfed straw stack next to the road with heat impingement on the power lines but no other exposures. Engine 4 requested support from Battalion 1. There was nothing to save as the stack was in full blaze upon arrival. There were no injuries.

The IFFD contatcted Rocky Mountain Power and it was determined that the power lines would remain energized.

Rescue 1 and Engine 1 monitored the fire through the early morning hours. The stack is expected to continue to burn and smolder throughout the day, and crews will continue to monitor it.

There were a total of ten firefighters on scene (2 engine, 1 rescue and a battalion chief). The estimated damage was 560 one-ton bales of straw. The fire is still under investigation.
