Historical Preservation Committee to host fundraiser to restore Brady Chapel
The Historical Preservation Committee is hosting a fundraiser to benefit restoration efforts for the Brady Chapel in Pocatello on Friday October 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Attendees of the event will have the chance to hear the history of the nearly 100-year-old building, find out about the planned repairs, and hear what the future holds for the chapel.
James H. Brady was a dominant figure in Idaho. He served as Idaho’s Governor from 1908 to 1911 and U. S. Senator from 1913 until his death in 1918. After Brady passed away, his heirs erected the Gothic meditation chapel as a memorial. Lots adjacent to the chapel were given by the city to the family as a permanent public park. But for 39 years the Chapel was locked and used for storage and fell into disrepair. In 1972 the Brady chapel was put on the state historical register. The Cemetery Committee has continued in the restoration efforts and are striving to return the chapel to its original state.
The other projects are to include new plexiglass coverings for the stain glass windows and a search effort to find the thirteen original pews that have gone missing over the years.
Donations will be accepted at the event and the first 100 donors will receive a free small ice cream cone from Tastee Treet. Those who are unable to attend but are interested in donating to the restoration effort can contact Terri Neu at (208) 234-6500 or visit the Historical Preservation Committee’s website.
