Independent Presidential Candidate Evan McMullin to Return to Idaho

After what the campaign of Independent Presidential candidate Evan McMullin calls a successful weekend of campaigning in Eastern Idaho, the third-party candidate is returning to the Gem State.

McMullin’s Deputy Campaign Manager, John Claybrook, told KIFI/KIDK that McMullin will campaign in Boise on Saturday. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. A location has not been decided.

McMullin spent this past Friday and Saturday in Idaho Falls and Rexburg. With just a 48 hours notice, the turnout at both events was so high, the campaign had to change venues for both.

“We saw an unbelievable response at close to 2,000 people in Idaho Falls and Rexburg,” Claybrook said in a written statement provided to KIFI/KIDK reporter Chris Oswalt on Twitter. “Our supporters in Boise are eager to hear from Evan and continue their great grassroots work.”

McMullin told the Rexburg crowd he believes momentum in Utah will bleed into Idaho giving him a chance at keeping Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald Trump from winning the state’s four electoral votes. A new Rasmussen poll out this morning has McMullin beating Clinton and on the heels of Trump.

The poll found 30% of likely voters support Trump, 29% support McMullin compared to Clinton’s 28%. This is within the margin of error of 4%.

“It’s very clear that people in Idaho are receptive to the McMullin campaign and are eager to support new American leadership,” Claybrook continued in his statement.

KIFI/KIDK will update this story once a location for Saturday’s event has been decided.
