Former lawman indicted for misuse of public funds

Former Blaine County Deputy Sheriff Chad Schiermeier was arrested Saturday by Idaho State Police on six felony counts of misuse of funds by a public employee.

Schiermeier was indicted Friday by a Blaine County Grand Jury convened by Prosecuting Attorney Jim J. Thomas.

Scheiermeir, 40, was employed by the Sheriff’s office from May 1999 to December 2015. He was assigned as Wood River Middle School Resource Officer. The deputy also organized and scheduled Police Activities League activities during the summer months and was in charge of the program’s financial budget and expenditures.

Sheriff Gene Ramsey said Schiermeier was placed on suspension in November 2015, after questions arose regarding the league’s funds.

“As soon as we discovered discrepancies in the accounting and possible theft allegations,” said Ramsey, “I immediately placed Schiermeier on suspension.

Idaho State Police was called to complete a criminal investigation.

Schiermeier is currently being held in the Mini Cassia Criminal Justice Center on a $200,000 bond after arraignment Monday afternoon in Cassia County District Court.
