Bonneville County Sheriff deputies arrested Joseph Pfannschmidt, 31 of Idaho Falls, Friday afternoon after getting a call from a his wife saying she had been beaten. The phone line was disconnected shortly after she made the call to the dispatch. When a deputy showed up the house the woman had visible injuries to her eye and face.

According to a press release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Pfannschmidt, yelled at the deputy and locked himself inside the house with 4 juvenile children. Pfannschmidt refused commands from the Deputy to open the door and out of concern for the safety of the children inside the Deputy forced entry through the front door.

Pfannschmidt started fighting and resisting when deputies tried to arrest him. Deputies eventually were able to get him in handcuffs and into a patrol car.

After interviewing the victim and the children, deputies learned Pfannschmidt repeatedly punched and kicked the victim in the face, threw a child down some stairs, and put another kid in a choke hold over the course of the last few days. According to deputies, Pfannschmidt also took the phone out of the victim’s hand and disconnected the call.

Pfannschmidt was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for Felony Injury to a Child, Misdemeanor Domestic Battery, Intentional Destruction of an Emergency Telecommunication Line, and Resisting an Officer.
