Man reported missing in Snake River Canyon
UPDATE: 7-7-17 Search efforts for a missing rafter in the Snake River Canyon will be scaled back today. The Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office said efforts to find 21-year-old Oliver Woodward continued Thursday but failed to find any sign of the man. Multiple law enforcement agencies, “land combers”, and underwater sonar were used in a slightly expanded search area. Missing person flyers will continue to be handed out and local fishing, boating, and other water users will be asked to diligently watch for the man. UPDATE: 7-5 4:35 p.m. Search efforts continued Wednesday for 21-year-old Oliver Woodward. The Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office said it was notified at 7:46 p.m. that two persons were missing on a rafting trip on the Snake River south of Hoback Junction. The missing persons were efjected from a raft as it went through rapids known as “Kings Wave”. The were part of a group of 6 persons, including 4 males and 2 females. One of the subjects was located in good health while officers were responding. Multiple law enforcement agencies launched a coordinated search to look for Woodward. The search continued until 10:40 p.m. Tuesday when it became too dark to continue. Search efforts resumed at 8 a.m. Wednesday with several watercraft, shore “combers” and scent dogs. Woodward had not been located as of late Wednesday afternoon (4 p.m.) The sheriff’s office said search efforts would continue into Wednesday evening and, if necessary, resume again on Thursday. Foul play is not suspected. ORIGINAL STORY: The Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man missing in the Snake River Canyon. Oliver Woodward, 21, was last seen in the late afternoon in the water at Kings Wave. Woodward is 6 feet tall and was wearing green board shorts. He was not wearing a life jacket.
