Blackfoot family gets “Extreme Makeover Bedroom” thanks to principal

One Blackfoot family’s house is getting a facelift thanks to an elementary school principal.

For the past three years, Ridge Crest Elementary School Principal Randy Martineau has been remodeling a student’s room each year. Thanks to a lot of donations, this year they’re doing even more.

“This year it’s gotten a little out of control that we’re doing just about the whole house,” Martineau said. “The living room, the kitchen. It’s just a whole lot of fun.”

Two sisters from the school are getting a new room. Martineau says he tries to find students who could use a little help.

“It’s not an exact science,” he said. “We went through our school and we started talking about some of the nicest, most polite, good kids that could use a boost and their family could use some help. And we just happened to choose this family this year.”

None of this would be possible without the generosity of the community.

“The community is so special,” Martineau said. “It just really touches my heart. Nobody tells us no. All we have to do is call up and say what we’re doing and they get excited and say, ‘Yeah how can we help?’ And they always go above and beyond. I’m blown away by how big the donations are and it’s just so neat. It’s just so fun to be a part of a community that’s willing to do this and donate so much.”

The house is set to be finished tomorrow afternoon.
