Black Bear Diner in Chubbuck closes its doors

Black Bear Diner in Chubbuck closed its doors for good on Thursday.

According to Joby Management, who owns the restaurant, Wednesday was the last day in business. Joby Management said it was a financial decision to close the restaurant, that there just wasn’t enough business to keep it open.

Employees posted on social media saying they had no warning, that they were called in for a meeting Thursday morning and were told the restaurant was closing.

“The business just wasn’t at the level it needed to be to sustain things,” said Brad Williams, of Joby Management.

Williams said there were about 30 to 40 employees at the location.

He said the employees will be getting their final paychecks within a week and they have already started filing for unemployment for the employees. Williams said they won’t be making any claims and are doing all else they can to expedite the unemployment process.

According to the Black Bear Diner home office out of California, the closure of the Chubbuck location will have no effect on any other locations because the franchises are owned by different people. The Chubbuck location is the only one owned by Joby Management.

A note posted on the restaurant door reads, “We are saddened to announce the closing of our Black Bear Diner. This was not an easy decision by any means, but one that after careful consideration, we felt was necessary. We want to thank all of our employees and management for doing everything they could to represent our brand in a positive way. We’d also like to thank our guests as well as the city of Chubbuck for their patronage and support.”

The Chubbuck location was open for less than two years – it opened its doors in April of 2016.
