Jefferson School District Superintendent Sherick to retire
After 32 and a half years in the field of education, Jefferson School District 251 Superintendent Lisa Sherick has announced she will retire in January 2019.
Sherick has served as the Jefferson School District Superintendent for the past four and a half years.
She previously was a junior high and high school teacher, a consulting teacher, high school assistant principal, elementary principal, special education director and an assistant superintendent before coming to Jefferson School District.
Sherick will reach the retirement Rule of 90 for educators on January 1.
According to Sherick, she feels this is the best time to retire, now that the Jefferson School District bond recently passed and before she gets too deep into the school plans.
“I want to do the best thing for the school district, the longer I stay and am involved in the planning, design and construction of our bond projects the more difficult the transition will be to a new superintendent,” said Sherick. “It will be important to get the new superintendent involved in the building process as soon as possible as I would not be able to stay to see the projects to completion.”
Sherick is looking forward to retirement to enjoy time with her new grandchild, parents, family and to travel with her husband.
She plans to continue to be involved in education and may do some consulting work.
Superintendent Sherick will assist the district in a new superintendent search as well as help in the transition.
The Board of Trustees appointed Chad Martin, Secondary Director of Education, to serve as interim superintendent after Superintendent Sherick’s departure in January and until a new superintendent is selected and begins work in July.
