Community walks to end Alzheimer’s

The Eastern Idaho community came together this morning to raise awareness and put an end to Alzheimer’s.

There were 500 participants in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Members of the Alzheimer’s Association say this event helps raise awareness that the association is here and can help those suffering with Alzheimer’s or those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. It is also a fundraiser for the association to put towards ending the disease. This year they raised about $80,000. Their goal is to bring light to the disease and help those going through it.

“This disease can be very isolating,” said Lindsay Meloy with the Greater Idaho Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “It can be, you know, there’s going to be a lot of care in home and it can be hard to get out and socialize the same. This event shows folks that they’re not alone, they’re not alone in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are others that are going through that they can reach out to, they can go to support groups, they can get the help they need to go through this difficult journey.”

Organizers say they were short of their goal of $120,000. You can still donate through December. If you would like to donate, you can do so here.
