Girls across the state help assemble feminine hygiene kits

The Idaho Falls branch of Days for Girls met with high school senior girls across the state to help make feminine hygiene supply kits for girls around the world. It is part of the service project for the “Distinguished Young Woman of Idaho” scholarship competition.

The girls competing in the program met at the Campbell Gym in Idaho Falls on Wednesday. The Distinguished Young Women helped sew, cut, sketch, pack and more to build each kit.

“I think that it’s really important, first of all, for the girls to serve and for them to know that they are helping girls of their own age somewhere else in a different country,” said Brenda Merchant, the Idaho Falls team leader for Days for Girls.

The Days for Girls kit comes with a care and use sheet, two waterproof shields, a bar of soap, washcloth, eight absorbent liners, two pairs of underwear, two plastic bags and one drawstring bag to hold everything.

The girls that participated in making these feminine hygiene supply kits say it helps put things into perspective.

“It’s been really humbling to really realize how grateful we are for the technologies and modern products that we have,” said Grace Christensen, Shelley’s Distinguished Young Woman.
