Idaho ski resorts win national recognition
Five of Idaho’s 18 ski resorts received high marks in Ski Magazine’s annual “Resorts of the Year” issue for 2019.
Sun Valley was named first in western North America for “charm and lift service.”
Grand Targhee earned first place in the west for snow plus additional accolades for affordability. It ranked fifth place among western resorts for “overall satisfaction” among Ski magazine readers. Although located in Alta, Wyoming, Grand Targhee affiliates with the Idaho Ske Areas Association because it is only accessible via Driggs, Idaho.
Brundage Mountain in McCall earned an Editor’s Choice, “next best places” award while Bogus Basin in Boise and Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint among resorts of the year for Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. The magazine singled out Schweitzer as an up-and-coming four season resort that “could give the Tahoe areas reason to be nervous.”
The Idaho Ski Areas Association was founded in 1982. Also known as “Ski Idaho,” the promotional organization is funded by Idaho’s 2 percent hotel-motel lodging tax.
