Man sent to Portneuf following multiple car crash on I-15

UPDATE 10/11/18 7:00 a.m.: It was a two-car crash that triggered another wreck on Interstate 15 last night around 8:30 p.m.

Idaho State Police says it happened near milepost 78, just south of Fort Hall. 49-year-old Cory Ihler of Malad City was driving north in a pickup pulling a trailer with a UTV on it. 27-year-old Lucas Stokes of Pingree rear-ended the trailer causing Ihler to lose control. His pickup and trailer rolled and ended up in the southbound lanes.

Three more drivers were rear-ended when traffic rapidly slowed down. Ihler was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. No word on his condition.

UPDATE 10/11/18 10:40 p.m.: ISP said there were two crashes. The first crash and then what appears to be a secondary crash.

A witness who saw the accident said a truck was headed north and was pulling a small trailer with an ATV and had some camping equipment. There was a crash on the northbound side of the road and the truck went through the median and ended up facing south on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes. All of the gear in the back of the truck was scattered throughout the median and the ATV it was carrying was several yards away from the truck. The witness said the man had to be extricated from the truck but his son didn’t. She said it appeared that the son was okay.

ISP said there were no fatalities at the scene. Troopers added they are still investigating and trying to piece together exactly what happened.

Both southbound and northbound lanes are one lane each while emergency crews work to clear the scene.

The accident is milepost 79, about 1 mile south of the Fort Hall exit.
