Steamboat erupts 23rd time in 2018 tying with number of 1982 eruptions

The Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park erupted for the 23rd time in 2018 Monday tying with the number of times it erupted in 1982 and making this the most active year for the geyser since then.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the geyser erupted at 2:12 p.m.

It has been 7 days, 3 hours and 47 minutes since it last erupted.

Yellowstone National Park reports this is the most active year for Steamboat since 1982 when it off 23 times. It also went off 26 times in 1963, 29 times in 1964 and 22 times in 1965.

USGS said the geyser has decided to follow a semi-regular pattern of erupting about every 5 days over the past several weeks.
