Evacuations lifted after gas line rupture

UPDATE 12:45 p.m. Preston City Chief Mike Peterson reports the evacuations have been lifted.

He said a small trackhoe was doing some landscaping in a yard at 262 S 100 E in Preston and hit a gas line.

Originally police thought it could be worse because they thought he might have hit a high-pressure gas line, and so they called for an evacuation of homes in a two block radius as a precaution.

Officials then discovered it was just a single, low-pressure line that was just a 1 1/2″ pipeline that was affecting one home, and evacuations were lifted.

Peterson said crews had it pinched off and under control within 30 minutes. They are just working on cleaning it all up.

Preston High school is nearby, and the school was notified as a precaution but was not ever evacuated.
