Agfest brings agricultural community together

Farming is an important part of Eastern Idaho’s economy. On Saturday, the agricultural community came together in Idaho Falls to celebrate that.

Animals, music, games and some free french fries: It was fun for the whole family at the third annual Agfest in Idaho Falls. The event is a way to pay tribute to all of the farm workers in the area.

“We just wanted to thank all of the people that work for the ag industry and show our appreciation to them,” said Linda Tayor, co-founder of Agfest.

The festival features booths that help with opportunities for education, programs and more. This year, they started a scholarship program for students to continue education.

“We thought it would be great if not only just a chance to say thank you, but we could give those some of the areas that they could use some help and to get a better start,” said Carl Taylor, co-founder of Agfest. “They’re a vital role in our economy, they’re a vital part of our community and we appreciate them and wanna have them have every opportunity we can.”

Agfest’s biggest attraction was a potato. The Big Idaho Potato Truck stopped at the Pinecrest Event Center during its cross-country journey to say hi to the farmers it represents.

“It’s really special for us to be here today at Agfest,” said the Big Idaho Potato Truck Tater Team. “The farmers are the ones who put this on and who we represent. We represent over 700 family farms, and they make this all possible for us, and it’s great to represent them out on the road.”

Agfest not only promotes agriculture, it brings together a certain type of family.

“It really brings us together as a city and as a community of workers that work in the agriculture industry,” said Colby Phillips, human resources manager for Taylor and Sons Farms. “And this is the third year we’ve been doing it, and it’s a lot of fun. We really enjoy everybody that comes out and all the smiles that we see.”

The new scholarship program is for four scholarships. The funding comes from the sponsors of Agfest.
