Police chief discusses policing issues with community

Members of the Idaho Falls African American Alliance met with the Idaho Falls police chief this morning for breakfast to talk about issues in the community.

What was going to be just a few people, turned into a pretty good crowd at Grandpa’s Southern BBQ. Idaho Falls Police Chief Bryce Johnson wanted to meet with the group as part of the community policing experience. They discussed policing issues in the community and any other concern the group has. Chief Johnson says its good to build relationships with different community groups.

“This is kind of a chance for me to get to know some people here and to hopefully talk about some policing issues that anyone might have,” Chief Johnson said. “And then build some relationships and make it a community policing experience where people have an impact on their police department and know that we’re working for them and can talk to us about the issues they have.”

“It’s a small community,” said David Snell, president of the Idaho Falls African American Alliance. “The African American population is less than one percent here, but to have this opportunity to get to know the police chief, I thought that was huge. You don’t see that in all the cities.”
