Broadway show “Newsies” performed by East Idaho School
A first for Eastern Idaho coming up this week as Madison Jr. High will present the Broadway hit musical ” Newsies. ” Director Joe Lawless says it’s the first time a school in Eastern Idaho has performed it.
“It’s really fun, ” 9 th grader Nathan Johnson said. ” There’s a lot of energy and I have a lot of friends in this play and it’s really fun to hang out and get to be myself.”
And nowhere is that energy more evident than in the choreography — both the boys and the girls tap dancing like they were on Broadway.
These young performers just happy to be a part of this show and learning important life lessons from it.
“You learn to work with other people and create a team – moving all the props everywhere gets sort of crazy but we have learned to work with each other and it’s now going really smoothly,” 8 th grader Baylee Serrano said.
Director Joe Lawless says these kinds of experiences are invaluable for the students.
“It’s something that I think helps students understand the value of life itself – it helps them to be involved, ” Lawless said. ” If they’re putting all this time and effort into here, there’s no what they’re going to be getting into trouble.”
The show will be presented at Madison Jr. High. It begins at 7 pm Nov 29, 30, Dec. 3, 4 with a Saturday matinee performance 2:30 on Dec.1. Tickets are available at the door or online at our.show/mjhnewsies.
