Pocatello engineer honored by his peers
A Pocatello engineer was recognized as the 2019 Public Works Leader of the Year during the Rocky Mountain Chapter annual conference in Fairmont, Montana.
Merril Quayle was honored for “outstanding career service achievements” by the regional chapter of the American Public Works Association, which includes Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Merril’s career with the City started in 1989 as a bus driver and maintenance mechanic for Pocatello Regional Transit. While working for the City, he completed his Bachelors of Science in Engineering at Idaho State University. In 1996, he made the move into engineering as an Engineering Technician/Equipment Operator with the Street Operations Department. In 1999, he took on the role as Project Engineer in the Engineering Department and in 2001, he became the Development Engineering Services Manager which was later renamed to Public Works Development Engineer.
“This is a great honor as there are many outstanding leaders within the APWA Rocky Mountain Chapter,” said Merril. “It takes a team to complete projects and without their help, I would not have received this award. I feel privileged to work with colleagues that nominated me.”
Merril has been involved in a number of projects in his Pocatello career, including the South Valley Road and widening of South 5th Avenue. He was also involved in the runway and taxiway rehabilitation at Pocatello Regional Airport and the McKinley sewer Lift Station.
