Presidential scholarship semifinalists named

A Rigby teen and four from Jackson Hole have been selected as semifinalists for the U.S. Presidential Scholars program. The program recognizes some of the nation’s most accomplished graduating high school seniors.

According to the State Department of Education, Idaho’s semifinalists include Megan Elizabeth Clements of Rigby High School, Peyton Badger of Meridian, John Chen, Aidan McIntyre and Michael Min of Boise, and Crista Falk of Coeur d’Alene.

In Wyoming, the seven statewide semifinalists included Christine Baker of Phillips Exeter Academy in Wilson, Lillian Brazil and Benjamin Brown of Jackson Hole High School, and Scott Nicholas Orton of Star Valley High School in Afton. The others were William Card of Sheridan, McKenzie Lilygren of Lander, and Marc Wodahl of Buffalo.

The finalists will be selected in May and invited to a national recognition program in June in Washington D.C. where they will be awarded a Presidential Scholars Medallion during a White House Ceremony.

Each state normally has two academic finalists named and most often a boy and girl who are American citizens. It is a recognition program, not a scholarship program.
