Planning underway for Teton Valley hazardous fuels reduction

Teton County Fire and Rescue will host a public meeting in Victor Tuesday to talk about a project aimed at reducing fire fuel loading.

The Caribou-Targhee National Forest said the project would focus on the south end of Teton Valley from Grove Creek south to Highway 31 and then east to Highway 31. The project would then move east to Mike Harris campground.

The project is based on earlier public feedback. It would include both prescription burns and commercial timber removal.

As part of the project, people who own property or live in a subdivision that is adjacent to Forest Service lands in the area, could be eligible for assistance to reduce hazardous fuels and vegetation on their property.

The public meeting is set from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, July 16 at the Teton County Fire Station #2 in Victor.
