Bandits to play for American Legion World Series title on Tuesday

It was worth the wait for the Idaho Falls Bandits. A Nick Layland single in the bottom of the ninth inning brought home the winning run against Illinois in the American Legion World Series semi-finals late Monday night.

The 4-3 victory puts Idaho Falls in the championship game on Tuesday at 4:30 pm. The Bandits will face a North Dakota team that they beat 7-3 during the pool play.

The semifinal against Illinois was scheduled to start around 6:30 local time in Shelby, North Carolina, but a rain delay pushed the game back a little over four hours. Then when they did get the game in, it took extra innings for the Bandits to secure the win.

Idaho Falls is expected to send Randon Hostert to the mound on Tuesday. Hostert threw back-to-back no hitters in the Northwest Regional Tournament. The Bandits will shoot for their first American Legion World Series title Tuesday at 4:30 pm. The game will air nationally on ESPN News.
