Pocatello Police and SWAT teams evacuate an apartment complex after reports of an armed man barricaded inside

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI)

A police incident at the Yellowstone Townhouse apartment complex in Pocatello ended late Monday night with no shots being fired and no suspect being taken into custody.

Pocatello police were called to the scene just after 7:00 Monday, July 11th after reports that a man entered one of the apartments with a gun. Police are still trying to piece together what happened but they believe the man was not a resident but was known by people who lived there.

Police believed the man had barricaded himself in the apartment, he was believed to be armed and dangerous.

Residents from several of the buildings in the complex were evacuated for about four hours while police attempted to talk to the man.

SWAT team members armed with assault rifles, several police units, K-9 units, Pocatello Fire department, and ambulances responded to the scene.

Police also used drones to survey the area.

Police negotiators attempted to talk to the man but after several hours of no response, they went in just after 11:00 p.m.

They found the apartment empty and police officers tell us the suspect was later located in American Falls.

He has not been arrested at this point but the investigation is continuing.

This is a developing story, Pocatello police tell us they will have more information on Tuesday.
