Police kill woman who fatally stabs 1, wounds another in Times Square, source says

(CNN) — A knife-wielding woman stabbed two people in Times Square Monday afternoon, killing one, before police shot and killed her, a law enforcement official said.

The suspect, who was shot by police, has also died, according to a second law enforcement official.

Officers opened fire and shot the woman as she moved toward the officers with at least one knife in her hand, the official said. The victims were taken to a local hospital, though the condition of the second victim is not yet known, the official said.

NYPD officers arrived at the scene near 42nd Street and 7th Avenue – the heart of Times Square – and found the knife-wielding woman after she had attacked her victims at around 4:30 p.m., the official said.
