Food drive contributes to greater cause at the fair

BLACKFOOT, Idaho (KIFI) - The Blackfoot Community Food Pantry held a food drive at the Eastern Idaho State Fair on Tuesday.

The Fair Partnership gave people attending the an opportunity to donate bags of canned goods to help those in need of support.

“Each year, we partner with the state fair here,” Blackfoot Food Pantry Director Gene Balsmeier said. “As you can imagine, canned goods are a significant portion of the food that we give out each week to the folks that need that support.”

Those who donated canned goods got a $3 discount off their ticket.

People like Mark Williams realize there is a more important cause to donate.

“Well, there's a lot of people in need,” Williams said. “There's a lot of people who can't afford what we have.”

If you missed your opportunity to donate at the fair, you can visit the Food Pantry at 245 W Sexton St. in Blackfoot or visit the Community Dinner Table website.
