Police investigate bomb threat at Bingham Memorial Hospital

BLACKFOOT, Idaho (KIFI) - The Bingham County Sheriff's Office Emergency Communication Center received a call from Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot regarding a potential bomb threat Tuesday at 2:10 p.m.

Law enforcement officials with the Blackfoot Police Department and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bingham Memorial Hospital and established this was most likely an unsubstantiated or spoof call.

Out of an abundance of caution, non-essential staff were evacuated from the area as law enforcement and staff completed a sweep of the hospital.

No suspicious items were located during the sweep, and no further threats were found.

A short time later a suspect was identified and contacted by law enforcement and it was learned there were no further potential threats in the area.

The Blackfoot Police Department was also made aware of other similar phone calls made to other healthcare facilities in our area.

The Blackfoot Police Department will be working with other area jurisdictions regarding the criminal investigation which is pending.

Police said information regarding the suspect and criminal investigation will be released at a later date.
