Coroner identifies victim in Extended Stay Pocatello shooting

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 9/1/22: The Bannock County Coroner’s Office, in cooperation with the Chubbuck Police Department, Pocatello Police Department, and Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, has confirmed the identity of the deceased following the fatal shooting incident that occurred at 291 W. Burnside in Chubbuck on Tuesday.

Officials say the victim was 48-year-old John Carl Walker of Chubbuck. Next of kin has been notified.

On Wednesday, 31-year-old Teshombee Qamayne Lang was booked into the Bannock County Detention Facility charged with manslaughter, Idaho Code 18-4006 as well as unlawful possession of a firearm, Idaho Code 18-3316. In addition to those charges, Lang also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

The incident remains under investigation by Chubbuck Police.


UPDATE 2:45 p.m. Police have released an update to the shooting incident that occurred during the late night hours Tuesday at the Pocatello Extended Stay.

During police's investigation Tuesday night, officials were able to identify a person of interest in this case who was placed into custody early Wednesday. 

Then Wednesday afternoon, 31-year-old Teshombee Qamayne Lang was booked into the Bannock County Detention Facility charged with manslaughter, Idaho Code 18-4006 as well as unlawful possession of a firearm, Idaho Code 18-3316. In addition to those charges, Lang also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

Police anticipate being able to release the identity of the victim Thursday once all of the proper notifications have been made.  

The investigation is still very much in progress. 

Police say bringing this individual into custody would not have been possible without the the cooperation of all agencies involved. This is a good example of the dedication and commitment to serving our community by members of the Chubbuck Police, Pocatello Police and the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office.


ORIGINAL: Chubbuck Police officers responded to the Extended Stay Pocatello in Chubbuck at 291 W. Burnside Tuesday around 11:26 p.m. for the report of an adult male who had been shot.

Lifesaving measures were taken by police personnel on scene as well as Chubbuck EMS and Bannock County Ambulance; however, the male victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

The investigation into the man's death continued throughout the early morning hours, and a person of interest was identified. 

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the person of interest was detained at the Extended Stay and is currently being questioned.

Police investigation into the events that occurred Tuesday night is still on-going, and officials expect to be able to release more information as it becomes available. 

Currently the name of the victim as well as the person of interest is not able to be released.
