New tool to promote driver safety is hitting the streets of Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Advance Auto Parts has partnered with the Idaho Falls Police Department to launch a unique program designed to increase vehicle safety for local motorists.

The Auto Parts store on 17th street donated 100 gift cards to the Idaho Falls police department this morning. Officers will be handing out the 25-dollar cards instead of tickets to drivers pulled over for equipment violations. This will allow them to safely repair the equipment without having to incur the cost of a ticket.

"It would be at the discretion of the officer, they would have the decision to make. Whether or not issue a citation or what not.” says Sgt. Brian Trimble Specifically this would be for any type of equipment violations, so a broken tail light. Perhaps you have a belt that's broken. Perhaps you have a radiator problem, or tire issue. Whatever the case may be.”

Idaho Falls Police Officers will only conduct traffic stops for reasons that would justify a traffic stop and where a driver could legally receive a citation for the violation. Motorists who receive a gift card may redeem them online at AdvanceAutoParts.com or at any Advance location.
