Jesse Gentle makes first court appearance
RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 11/18/2020: Jesse Gentle made his first appearance in felony Magistrate Court in Jefferson County Wednesday.
Magistrate Judge Robert Crowley ordered Gentle to appear at a preliminary hearing December 2.
He has been formally charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $750,000 bond.
UPDATE 2:30 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Jesse S. Gentle for allegedly shooting and killing 72-year-old Merle Jay Sorenson.Â
Gentle is being charged with 1st degree murder and is currently housed at the Jefferson County Jail.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Sorenson.
The investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff's office said next of kin has been notified.
ORIGINAL: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a 71-year old man at a home at 4364 E. 375 North, near Rigby.
Deputies were called to the home at 1:58 a.m. Tuesday.
A 21-year old man was taken into custody. Neither the suspect nor victim have yet been identified.
Sheriff Steve Anderson said the two people were known to each other and there is no danger to the public at this time.
