Body of drowning victim located

ST. ANTHONY, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 5/11/21: At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, the body of drowning victim Matthew Rios was located approximately a mile downstream from the Fun Farm Bridge with the aid of a drone.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the agencies that assisted during the recovery.

Sheriff Humphries would like to encourage the public to avoid river swimming and bridge jumping until this summer when the conditions are better suited for recreation.


ORIGINAL: A male BYU-Idaho student is missing after going over a dam Thursday afternoon, in the Henry's Fork of the Snake River.

The student was reported swimming near the Fun Farm Bridge, when he went over a nearby dam.

Members of the Fremont County Search and Rescue, called off the search Thursday evening and will resume Friday morning.

The Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue personnel, are encouraging people to stay out of the water. The water temperature is around 50 degrees.

The name of the student is being withheld, pending notification of family.
