PROVO, Utah (KIFI) — A judge in Utah is expected to decide today whether Tyler Robinson will stand trial for the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. The ruling will follow closing arguments in Robinson's preliminary hearing.

The hearing addresses allegations that Robinson killed Kirk from a rooftop during a speaking event in Utah nearly one year ago. Court proceedings allow each side 4 hours to present final arguments before the judge makes a ruling.

State prosecutors maintain they have overwhelming evidence against Robinson. In response, defense attorneys claim the state has failed to prove the necessary legal elements required to support an aggravated murder charge. Kirk's family members are expected to be present for the proceedings. His widow and parents plan to attend the hearing in person and intend to issue a joint statement by email following the court's ruling.

A decision on whether Robinson will stand trial is expected later today following the completion of closing arguments.
