CAIRO (AP) — Large numbers of Sudanese have been massing at a border crossing with Egypt and at a main port, desperately trying to escape the violence roiling their country. Residents in the capital of Khartoum and the neighboring city of Omdurman have reported sporadic clashes between the military and a rival paramilitary force but said the intensity of fighting had dwindled on the second day of a three-day truce. The military said it had “initially accepted” a diplomatic initiative to extend the current cease-fire for another three days after it expires on Thursday. There was no immediate comment from the paramilitary group.
