Candidates spar over key tax issue in final gubernatorial debate before Kentucky election

Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear and Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron have sparred over tax policies in their final debate. They sharpened their closing pitches in the hourlong debate Tuesday night. Just two weeks are left in their campaign for governor in Kentucky. Beshear called for a cautious approach to phasing out the state individual income tax. He says that’s needed to guarantee revenues remain sufficient to support education, public safety and health care. Cameron has vowed to preside over eliminating the individual income tax if elected. He says he wants to end the tax “in a thoughtful and responsible manner.”
