HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A Texas inmate who said he received a death sentence due to false and unscientific expert testimony is facing execution for killing a man during a robbery more than 33 years ago. Brent Ray Brewer is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Thursday evening at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. The 53-year-old was condemned for the April 1990 slaying of 66-year-old Robert Laminack in Amarillo. The victim was attacked while giving Brewer and his girlfriend a ride. The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday afternoon declined to halt the execution, rejecting claims by Brewer’s attorneys that prosecutors relied on false and discredited expert testimony at the 2009 resentencing trial.
