NEW YORK (AP) — The British royal family learned the hard way: in the modern media world, if you don’t fill an information vacuum, others will fill it for you, and it’s not likely to be pretty. The Princess of Wales’ announcement last week that she has cancer puts a cap on a wild period of speculation about her health and whereabouts that essentially became online entertainment for many. Experts say it all could have been avoided if the royal family had been a little more forthcoming with information. Putting out a photograph that turned out to be doctored didn’t help, either.
