Chad Daybell’s lawyer worried about trial’s timing to schedule expert witnesses

ST. ANTHONY, Idaho (KIFI) - Chad Daybell's trial is set to begin April 1 in Boise at the Ada County Courthouse. Judge Steven Boyce said he is finishing up a questionnaire for potential jurors and will be coordinating with Ada County.

Daybell's lawyer, John Prior, explained he has plans to fly in several experts to testify in May. He is concerned about the state's timing with the case and having to fly these experts in at a different time.

He said they would be paying for flights and hotels for the experts. He is worried the state may not be finished when they are scheduled to appear in trial. If he has to rebook or reschedule could get very expensive.

Judge Boyce also pointed out that some of the same rules used in Lori Vallow's murder trial last year will apply in Daybell's case. Such as witnesses not being allowed to watch or read any of the trial's proceedings from new outlets or other sources.

State prosecutors said they will be filing a couple of motions of limine before trial, but did not reveal what those were. A motion of limine is to exclude certain evidence from trial.

You can watch the hearing below.

Chad Daybell is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Lori Vallow-Daybell’s two children J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan and murder in the death of his former wife Tammy Daybell.

Lori Vallow-Daybell was sentenced last July for killing her two youngest children along with conspiring to kill Tammy Daybell. Vallow-Daybell is facing charges in Arizona with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly planning to kill her ex-husband, Charles Vallow, and attempting to kill Brandon Boudreaux, the former husband of her niece.
